Many professional audio plugins use iLok® as a copy‑protection and license‑management system. If one of our plugins requires an iLok, this page will help you understand what iLok is, how the iLok License Manager works, and how to get up and running quickly.

Step‑by‑Step: Setting Up iLok
1. Create and Sign Into Your iLok Account
Run the iLok License Manager and sign in with your user ID and password. If you don’t have an account yet, go to ilok.com to create one — it’s free and required to manage your licenses.
2. Open the iLok License Manager
Once signed in, you’ll see the main iLok License Manager window:
- Account view: shows all licenses tied to your iLok account.
- Available: shows licenses you can activate.
- All Activations: lists licenses that are currently activated.
3. Activate Your Licenses
To use a protected plugin, you need to activate its license to a location. There are three main activation options:
- iLok USB key: the most portable option; plug the USB into any compatible computer running the plugin.
- Computer: binds the license to that computer (works offline but isn’t portable).
- iLok Cloud session: lets you use the license on any computer with an internet connection.
You can activate licenses by dragging them from your account view to an activation location in the left sidebar, or by using the Activate button in the detail pane.
